If a person makes an ageist statement and you say “you know that what you just said is an ageist remark,” it is not uncommon for that person to respond, “Really?  I’ll have to think about that.”  Yet, if that same person makes a racist or anti-Semitic remark and you call them on it, you’re likely to be met with fear, defensiveness or anger—or all three. “Who me?  How can you call me a racist!
